BTU (British Thermal Unit) measures the cooling capacity of an air conditioner. The higher the BTU, the more cooling power the AC can deliver.
Quick HP to BTU Guide
| Horsepower | BTU Range | Room Size |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 HP | 9,000 BTU | 10-15 m² |
| 1.5 HP | 12,000 BTU | 15-22 m² |
| 2.0 HP | 18,000 BTU | 22-30 m² |
| 2.5 HP | 24,000 BTU | 30-40 m² |
| 3.0 HP | 28,000+ BTU | 40+ m² |
Why We Add 25% for Malaysian Climate
Malaysia's hot and humid tropical climate means your AC works harder than in temperate countries. Standard BTU calculations are based on moderate climates - we add 25% to ensure adequate cooling during hot afternoons and year-round comfort.
Factors That Affect BTU Requirements
- Sun exposure: West-facing rooms get afternoon sun and need more cooling
- Ceiling height: Higher ceilings mean more air volume to cool
- Occupancy: Each person adds about 600 BTU of heat
- Heat sources: Kitchens and equipment generate additional heat
- Insulation: Well-insulated rooms retain cool air better
